The recent news may not come as a shock to many, but it's disheartening nonetheless. President Donald Trump has once again taken aggressive action towards Iran, igniting the flames of war. And in turn, Tehran has responded in a similar fashion, using tactics that they've employed before the Memorandum of Understanding was signed.

This agreement was meant to bring about a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran. However, it seems that the progress made towards peace has been undone, sending us back to where we started. It's a disappointing setback, especially considering the glimmer of hope we had when we saw a light at the end of the tunnel.

This light promised a return to peace in the Middle East and a chance for the global economy to heal from the damages caused by the US and Israel's war with Iran. Unfortunately, the news coming out of the Middle East is bleak once again. The US military has launched a fresh round of attacks against Iran, escalating the already tense standoff over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has expressed frustration, stating that these strikes have rendered all diplomatic efforts of the past few months futile. The US Central Command has claimed that the attacks are meant to hinder Iran's ability to harm civilian mariners and commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. And as expected, President Trump has resumed his harsh rhetoric towards Iran, leading to retaliation in the form of attacks on nations in the region that host US military forces.

This back and forth of attacks and counterattacks has become a familiar pattern, but it does not lessen the severity of the consequences. Iran has once again closed the Strait of Hormuz, causing disruptions in the global supply of petroleum, gas, and fertilizers. The full impact of this closure on food production is yet to be felt.

The Strait plays a crucial role in the export of fertilizers, and the soaring prices are already forcing farmers to cut back on their use. Additionally, the decrease in remittances from migrant workers in the Gulf is having a significant impact on Asian and African countries. But why is President Trump pushing the Middle East into another cycle of war, even after engaging in peace talks?

Many believe that this change in direction is influenced by the upcoming US midterms. The potential impact on his domestic supporters may have forced him to agree to the Memorandum of Understanding, even though some may see it as a sign of weakness. After all, Trump's core supporters have always praised his tough stance on foreign policy.

However, in the midst of a heated election, he may have to take a different approach to appease his base. It's evident that the US has been unable to break Iran's resilience and their attacks on Arab allies. As a result, President Trump may be taking a "blow hot and blow cold" approach towards Iran until the midterm polls are over.

This way, he can maintain the support of his Republican followers and deflect criticism from Democrats who accuse him of going back on his promise of avoiding war. If his party wins, he may revert to his hawkish stance. But if they lose, he may pursue peace with a renewed determination.

This may explain his conflicting statements and actions towards Iran. The current resumption of hostilities after a half-hearted attempt at peaceful resolution only confirms this theory. President Trump has already shown that he's not concerned with leading the rest of the world; his focus is solely on "Making America Great Again." However, in the process, he has also shown the weakness of the US as Iran continues to outwit the US and Israel.

Unfortunately, many current political leaders prioritize winning elections above all else, causing incalculable harm to humanity and the world. It's a concerning trend that is becoming all too common.
