New Lagos studio 'Casa Mouda' showcases modern African designs.

Casa Mouda is a new creative hub that is set to make its debut in Lagos, Nigeria in the fall of 2026. This innovative studio, founded by art and design entrepreneur Caline Chagoury Moudaber, aims to showcase and promote contemporary African design, with a specific focus on West African talent. Through various exhibitions, events, and collaborations, Casa Mouda intends to strengthen the production, exhibition, and international recognition of design emerging from this region.

The studio's first major project, "The Design Institute," will explore the evolution and future of collectible design in West Africa. It will feature a diverse range of designers, including Germane Barnes, Hajar Daide, Hall Haus, Marcus-Bello, Jean Servais Somian, and Marie-Paule Tano. Additionally, works from African craftspeople and designers will also be incorporated, creating a dynamic and inclusive showcase of talent.

Casa Mouda's origins can be traced back to 2013, when Chagoury Moudaber founded Art Twenty One, a renowned art space in Lagos. Building on the success of this venture, Casa Mouda aims to break down barriers and provide opportunities for West African designers to produce, exhibit, and export their work. By connecting the Lagos creative community with audiences beyond the region, the studio hopes to elevate the profile of African design on a global scale.

The "Design Institute" will take place in two newly renovated spaces, aiMe Gallery at Eko Hotel and aiMe Concept in Eko Atlantic. These spaces have been thoughtfully designed in consultation with renowned architects and designers, including Papa Omotayo of MOE+AA, Gemma Sfeir, and Nifemi Marcus-Bello. The activation will also incorporate food, music, and sound, with a specialty green coffee cafe, Kofi, and a custom soundscape by musician and sound designer Mallory James.

In a recent press release, Chagoury Moudaber shared her vision for Casa Mouda, saying, "For me, Casa Mouda is about bringing the warmth and intentionality of home into everything we do — creating experiences and spaces that feel alive with vision, taste, and purpose." Her experiences in Lagos, Los Angeles, Lebanon, and Paris have influenced the studio's focus on cultural exchange and community, with a strong emphasis on fostering a sense of belonging, creativity, and exchange.
