J. Lo's latest Netflix romantic comedy is refreshingly risque - thank goodness.

When it comes to romantic comedies, we've all been waiting for Jennifer Lopez to make a comeback. And finally, with Netflix's NSFW Office Romance, she has delivered her best rom-com in over a decade. It's about time, and we have to give a special shout out to writer and co-star Brett Goldstein for understanding that a raunchy reboot was exactly what JLo needed.

Known as the queen of the genre thanks to beloved classics like Maid in Manhattan and The Wedding Planner from the early 2000s, it's been a while since any of her newer romantic comedies have really stood out. Sure, Owen Wilson was a lovely foil to her in the perfectly serviceable Marry Me from 2022, and we got the perfectly agreeable Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel in 2023. But let's be real, can anyone remember the plot details of those films?

Probably not. But with Office Romance, that won't be the case. Goldstein has given the usual fluff surrounding JLo's glamorous leading lady a major overhaul.

Instead of the typical forgettable material, we get wanking jokes, an erection gag, and even a glimpse of a vagina during labor. It may sound more like something you'd see in a lads' movie, but trust me, it works. Goldstein and co-writer Joe Kelly know that alongside the raunchiness, there also needs to be tender handholding, a steamy-windowed ode to Titanic, and public declarations of love.

They honor all the necessary beats of a rom-com, but with a touch of realism and a lot more enjoyment than we've seen from JLo in a while. In fact, Office Romance might just be the biggest surprise of 2026. Lopez plays Jackie, the workaholic CEO of Air Cruz, with Goldstein as her company lawyer, Daniel Blanchflower.

When his boss Peter is suddenly unable to work, Daniel steps in to help Jackie on a lawsuit. We first meet them both at parallel dinners, where Daniel's drunken date calls him a p***y for not kissing her split lip, while Jackie deals with a business associate who admits he still masturbates to thoughts of his ex-wife. It's cringeworthy, to say the least.

But seeing JLo in this more self-deprecating setting is a breath of fresh air. She's still in a position of power, as befits her status and age, but she's also existing in a new universe where her airline founder father's nickname for her is "little fatty." And while Office Romance doesn't shy away from acknowledging her charms and making Daniel tongue-tied, it also points out that any romantic involvement between them would be like "Helen of Troy having sex with Mr. Bean." Thank goodness for Brett Goldstein's writing magic, because Office Romance is now available to stream on Netflix.

And while the film may hold back a bit when it comes to the actual sex scenes (a slight disappointment for some fans), the chemistry between Lopez and Goldstein is undeniable and fun. And while they may be the main couple, it's the side characters that truly shine in this genre. Not a surprise, given Goldstein's previous work on Shrinking and Ted Lasso, which are known for their lovable supporting characters.

Jackie's ball-breaking PA Sydney steals the show with her aggressive suspicion of the couple and brutal dismissal of Daniel. Jodie Whittaker also makes a riot of a cameo as Daniel's jailbird sister, and Tony Hale brings every ounce of humor as Air Cruz's harried HR manager. Welcome back, JLo, and thank you for giving us the rom-com that we all deserve.
