Liverpool's attempt to secure the services of Chelsea's £75m star player on deadline day was unsuccessful.

According to reports, Liverpool made a last-minute attempt to secure the signing of Malo Gusto from Chelsea. However, their efforts were unsuccessful as the transfer deadline day came to a close. It was not the first time that Liverpool had shown interest in the Chelsea right-back.

Earlier in the summer, Manchester City had also expressed their desire to sign Gusto. However, they were not willing to meet Chelsea's hefty asking price of £75 million. Gusto has been a part of Chelsea for four seasons now, having joined the club from Lyon in 2023 for a fee of €35 million.

With Conor Bradley out due to a knee injury and Jeremie Frimpong as the only experienced option for Andoni Iraola, Liverpool had been on the lookout for a new right-back. Unfortunately, their talks with Chelsea did not yield any positive results on the transfer deadline day. Reports suggest that Liverpool wanted a loan deal for Gusto without any obligation to buy the French international.

However, Chelsea had their sights set on a permanent transfer, which Liverpool rejected. Gusto's involvement in the World Cup for France this summer meant that his pre-season with Chelsea was shortened. Nevertheless, the 23-year-old has managed to make an impact in their first two Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton.

In other news, Chelsea also sold Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for a whopping £125 million on deadline day. They also reached an agreement with Monaco to sign Lamine Camara for €55 million, but unfortunately, the deal fell through in the final hour of the transfer window.
