In the remote village of Ranpur, located in the Gunupur panchayat of Thuamul Rampur block in Kalahandi district, a heartbreaking incident has brought to light the devastating consequences of negligence on a poor family. The unfortunate victim in this case is Neka Majhi, who is the sole provider for his family. Due to an accident where he fell into a pit, allegedly dug by a company called Jio, he has been bedridden for a considerable amount of time with a fractured hip.
The lack of financial resources has made it impossible for Neka to receive proper treatment, plunging his family into a state of deep distress. As reported, after media attention was drawn to the issue, the company used a JCB machine to fill up the pits. However, they have shown no concern for Neka's condition and have turned a blind eye to his suffering.
It was on his way back from work that Neka fell into one of these deep pits, resulting in severe fractures to his hip and thigh. Despite being referred to Burla Medical College from the district headquarters hospital, the family is facing a major obstacle in the form of financial constraints. Neka's elderly parents are unable to afford the cost of his treatment.
Despite lodging a complaint during the district administration's public grievance hearing, no action has been taken so far. The villagers have expressed their disappointment with the lack of action from local representatives, including the samiti member, sarpanch, zilla parishad member, and block chairman, who have not raised the issue. The villagers are now calling for the immediate intervention of the district administration or the ruling party leadership to ensure that Neka receives proper medical treatment and the company is held accountable by providing adequate compensation.
They have also warned that if action is not taken soon, the protests may intensify. The villagers are seeking justice for Neka, who is not only suffering from physical pain but also the mental anguish of not being able to provide for his family. The incident has caused an uproar in the village, and the community is standing in solidarity to fight for Neka's rights.
It is a reminder that in a country where the divide between the rich and poor is vast, it is the underprivileged who bear the brunt of negligence and injustice. It is time for the authorities to take swift action and ensure that Neka's family receives the support and justice they deserve.
