Gary Neville criticizes an Arsenal star as “absolutely embarrassing” during the win over Liverpool

Manchester United legend Gary Neville accused Gabriel of “letting himself down” after what he described as “absolutely embarrassing” play-acting during Arsenal’s Premier League victory over Liverpool. The Brazil international went down clutching his face after a collision with Liverpool striker Alexander Isak in the opening minutes at Anfield. Gabriel appealed for referee Andy Madley to penalise Isak, implying he had been struck in the face, although replays seemed to show Isak’s arm making contact with Gabriel’s upper chest.

“He does let himself down at times,” Neville said on Sky Sports commentary. “I love his fire, his passion and his tenacity. But there’s a push into his upper chest and he goes down holding his face.

“It’s absolutely embarrassing. He needs to stop doing that.” Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the match in the 16th minute to send the reigning champions three points clear at the top of the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s side were trailing early pacesetters Manchester City just two weeks ago, but the Etihad club have now suffered back-to-back defeats, while Arsenal’s only dropped points came against Brighton.

Liverpool had the opportunity to move back into the Champions League places and close to within three points of Arsenal, but a second league defeat of the season leaves them fifth. More to follow…
