According to recent reports, Chelsea is looking to part ways with Alejandro Garnacho after just one season. This decision comes after the former Manchester United star failed to show up for pre-season training. Back in June, there were talks that the club was willing to listen to offers for Garnacho, but they were not actively seeking a sale and were against the idea of a loan deal for the talented winger.
However, it seems that his time at Stamford Bridge has come to an end, less than a year after joining from Old Trafford for a whopping £40 million. Newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso led his first training session on Friday, with all players who did not participate in the 2026 World Cup reporting to Cobham. This includes England's very own Cole Palmer.
But one player who was noticeably missing from the training session was Garnacho. The Argentine international was not selected for his national team's squad, following a disappointing first season with Chelsea. It is not clear why the 22-year-old did not show up, as the club refused to comment when questioned about his absence.
However, it is highly likely that Garnacho is not in Alonso's plans for the future, and the club is now looking to offload him during this summer's transfer window. Roma is currently the only club that has expressed solid interest in signing Garnacho, with reports stating that Chelsea is demanding a fee of €50 million if they want to sell him to a foreign club. However, if another Premier League team is interested in giving him a chance, Chelsea's owners Todd Boehly and co.
would be looking for a fee of £45 million. After being left out in the cold by former manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, Garnacho was unable to live up to the high expectations in west London. He only managed to score one goal and provide four assists in 24 Premier League appearances.
This is a far cry from the player who was once hailed as one of the most promising young talents in Europe. Last summer, Garnacho himself described his move to Chelsea as "incredible." However, things have taken a turn and he is now open to the idea of leaving the club. This comes after a season where he struggled to find playing time, starting in only one of Chelsea's last 12 games as they finished 10th in the league and lost the FA Cup final to Manchester City.
So far this summer, Chelsea has already sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and Tyrique George to Everton, while Andrey Santos is set to join Manchester United for a record fee of £50 million.
