A quiet day in Ghatampur took a tragic turn when a boat carrying nine passengers submerged in the Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district. The incident, which occurred at Kutupur Patia under the jurisdiction of Kurara police station, left two people dead and six others missing. Officials confirmed that one person was safely rescued on Thursday.
The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have been tirelessly searching for the missing individuals since last night. However, their efforts have been hindered by heavy rainfall in the area. Despite this, search operations are still ongoing and divers from various teams are working together to find the missing passengers.
The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with rescue teams. District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal stated that local villagers and police were quick to respond to the incident and immediately rushed to the spot. According to Goyal, the passengers were returning from a routine trip that had been delayed.
The boatman, who survived the incident, explained that the boat did not capsize but rather submerged on its own. Those who knew how to swim were able to escape, but six individuals, including five children aged between 5 and 15 years, are still missing. BJP MLA Manoj Prajapati shared that the missing persons include five children and one woman.
He assured that the administration is fully alert and that three SDRF teams have been deployed. The government will follow all necessary protocols and provide a complete report to the Chief Minister. DIG Banda Division Rajesh Yash reported that out of the nine people on board the boat, three were able to swim to safety while the remaining six, including one woman and five children, are still missing.
SDRF, flood relief teams, and other officials are present at the spot, working tirelessly to find the missing individuals. Unfortunately, this is not the first boat accident in the area. Similar incidents have occurred in the past, including one in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district where 13 people lost their lives and another in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, where over 15 people lost their lives.
These unfortunate events serve as a reminder for everyone to prioritize safety and to always be prepared for emergencies.
