Just days before the much-awaited UK summer holidays, a terrifying incident took place at the PGL Marchants Hill outdoor adventure centre. It was a beautiful afternoon at the popular activity centre in Hindhead, Surrey, when all of a sudden, a tree fell and caused harm to several children. The alarm was raised at around 1:40 pm and multiple ambulance crews were immediately dispatched to the centre on Tilford Road.
The severity of the situation was evident as one of the injured children had to be airlifted to a hospital in London due to a serious leg injury. Six others were also taken to the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford for treatment of less severe injuries, according to the South East Coast Ambulance Service. Thankfully, eleven other patients were quickly assessed and treated at the scene and were later discharged.
The emergency response was swift and efficient, with ambulance crews from South Central Ambulance Service, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, as well as the police and fire service, working together to handle the situation. PGL, the company that runs the activity centre, released a statement confirming the incident and expressing their concern for those affected. They assured that they are working closely with the schools involved and the emergency services to provide support and timely updates to the families.
The Surrey MP for Farnham and Bordon, Gregory Stafford, also shared his thoughts on the incident, calling it a "serious accident" that caused injuries to a group of children. He extended his sympathies to the children and their families and commended the swift response of the emergency services. Surrey Police also confirmed that a tree had indeed fallen at the activity centre, although the specific area where the incident occurred is still unknown.
The PGL Marchants Hill outdoor adventure centre is a popular destination for children aged between eight and sixteen, with various exciting activities such as abseiling, challenge courses, climbing, and water attractions. It's a place where children can have fun and learn new skills while enjoying the great outdoors. However, this unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers that come with outdoor activities, and the importance of proper safety measures and emergency preparedness.
Let us keep the affected children and their families in our thoughts and hope for their speedy recovery.
