Tribal families not getting nutritious food

Siddapur, Sep. 4: Tribal families expressed their anger against the government and the ITDP department, saying that they have not been getting nutritious food provided by the government for the last three months. An incident took place in Gate Hadi under Maldare Gram Panchayat. About 150 tribal communities live in the Hadi under Maldare Gram Panchayat.

The government provides nutritious food items like pulses, sugar, jaggery, eggs, ghee, and rice to the tribals every month. But the fact that the tribals have not been getting nutritious food for the last three months has led to the anger of the residents here.

The coffee plantations are mostly inhabited by workers of Assam origin and work for low wages. In this context, the tribal community of Hadi is jobless. The nutritious food provided by the government to the tribal community, who are facing hardship due to lack of work during the rainy season, was helpful in maintaining their families. Now, the fact that the supply of nutritious food has also stopped is like drawing a line on the wound, the residents here expressed their pain.

The government used to provide nutritious food to the tribal community. The food items were helpful in maintaining life for the residents of Hadi, who are suffering from poverty without work. But no food items have been received for the last three months. If the government gives the tender for supplying food to the district, everything will be fine. The tribal community living in the forest is struggling due to lack of basic amenities. In the meantime, if there is a shortage of nutritious food, life will turn into hell, said Indira, a resident of Hadi.

The supply process has been delayed a bit with the aim of providing nutritious food in good quality. The supply of nutritious food has already started in the district. ITDP says that since supplies are being made to hilly areas, it is getting late to reach other places. We have ordered that food should be supplied by the 20th of every month.
