Teyana Taylor and writer-director A.V. Rockwell recently spoke to BLACK ENTERPRISE about their upcoming drama, A Thousand and One. This powerful film shows how generations of family trauma can be broken with love and resilience. Taylor, a native New Yorker, felt an instant connection to her character Inez, and shared her inspiration behind the role. Rockwell, also a New Yorker, has been credited as a “rising indie filmmaker” for her brutally honest yet poetically humanized depictions of urban life. The film, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, stars Taylor alongside Will Catlett, Josiah Cross, Aven Courtney, and Aaron Kingsley Adetola. It was produced by Eddie Vaisman, Julia Lebedev, Lena Waithe, Rishi Rajani, and Brad Weston, with Oren Moverman and Jamin O'Brien serving as executive producers.
