Teachers in Odisha delay protest until September 22 following reassurance from ministers.

Bhubaneswar has been witnessing a protest by school and college teachers since August 15, as they demanded several improvements in the education system. However, on Saturday, the Odisha government stepped in and assured the teachers that their concerns will be addressed. This led to the suspension of the agitation until September 22, as announced by the convener of the protesters' forum.

One of the main demands put forward by the teachers was to receive grant-in-aid and have vacant posts in education institutes filled. They also requested for better pension plans for teachers employed under the block grant system. In an emergency meeting of the Odisha School College Teachers' and Employees Coordination Committee, it was decided to suspend the agitation, following the announcement made by Law Minister Prithiuviraj Harichandan and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj at the agitation site at Mahatma Gandhi Marg.

The government has promised to consider their demands sympathetically and make a decision soon. Ranjan Kumar Dash, the convener of OSCTECC, expressed his gratitude towards Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for sending two ministers to the agitation site to address the concerns of the teachers. He also stated that they have faith in the government and believe that justice will be done for the teachers who have been neglected for over two decades and denied any social security.

However, the forum also issued a warning that if their demands are not met within two weeks, they will resume the protest on September 22, which coincides with the beginning of the monsoon session of the Assembly. After holding discussions with the agitating teachers, Law Minister Harichandan expressed his concern over the fact that they have been protesting day and night for the past 20 days. He also mentioned that the government has received a report from a high-level committee on the teachers' issues and it is currently under consideration.

Meanwhile, Higher Education Minister Suraj appealed to the teachers to call off their stir and return to work, assuring them that the government is sensitive towards their issues. The government is committed to improving the education system and ensuring that the concerns of the teachers are addressed. We hope that this resolution will bring an end to the ongoing agitation and allow for a peaceful and productive environment in the education sector.
