Temps dropping after end of Sept. heatwave.
After an unprecedented seven days of 30C heat, temperatures across Britain are set to drop drastically this week. The Met Office recorded highs of 32.7C at Heathrow Airport in London, but the mercury will soon nosedive.

On Monday and Tuesday, sunshine will remain across England and Wales with temperatures expected to reach the mid-twenties. But a dramatic decline is expected from Wednesday onwards, with highs of 13C in London and Cardiff and single figures forecast in Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland.

Rachel Ayers, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We’ll soon see cloud and outbreaks of rain spreading south-eastwards, with some heavy showers and potentially thunderstorms as well across England and Wales. There will still be some sunny spells as well and it will still feel fairly pleasant in the sunshine, though we are starting to see those temperatures come down from what we saw last week and over the weekend.”

Amy Bokota, another meteorologist at the Met Office, warned that the changeable conditions could even bring the first signs of frost. She said: “Wednesday morning in Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England could see grass frost. This will be in rural isolated areas on higher ground such as the Pennines. It will be low to mid-single figures, 3C in places and maybe lower in the higher ground.”

From Friday onwards, many areas have been warned to expect wet weather, with the driest and warmest conditions most likely in the southeast. This drop in temperatures comes just days before the Autumn equinox, which is set to occur on September 23 this year. British Summer Time officially comes to an end on October 29, when the clocks go back and many people get an extra hour in bed.
