"Switch 2 gets first gameplay trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, confirming its release on the console."

Nintendo is bringing Kingdom Hearts games to Switch 2, including the new Kingdom Hearts 4.

It seems like it's going to be a little while longer before we can get our hands on the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts games for the Switch 2. However, the good news is that Nintendo has finally announced that the Kingdom Hearts series will be getting proper ports for the Switch 2, including the much-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4. To the surprise of many, Square Enix chose to unveil this update during today's Nintendo Direct.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for any news about Kingdom Hearts 4 since its teaser trailer back in 2022, and Square Enix has been relatively quiet since then. Last year, they did release some screenshots to appease fans after cancelling the mobile spin-off game, Kingdom Hearts Missing Link. But now, not only do we have confirmation that the game will be available on the same day as the PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC versions, but we also got to see some actual gameplay footage in the trailer.

The gameplay looks exactly like what we would expect from a Kingdom Hearts game, but there's a new feature that caught our attention. Sora, the game's protagonist, can now summon chains to use as projectiles or even ride on through the air. While there is still no official release date, the trailer did confirm that the game will take place in the city of Quadratum, which is the only new world that has been announced so far.

According to the information we have so far, Sora will wake up in Quadratum at the start of his adventure.

Therefore, the gameplay we saw in the trailer is most likely from the game's opening hours. Regardless, fans are excited about the game's visuals, which seem to be on par with the other console versions. Sadly, there's still no confirmation on whether or not Kingdom Hearts 4 will feature a Star Wars world.

However, we did get a glimpse of some new characters and returning faces that fans will surely recognize. The brief length of the trailer could also mean that Square Enix has a longer one in the works, which they might share at a later date. There's a chance that we might hear more about the game during D23, Disney's own fan convention, which is happening in August.

But nothing is guaranteed at this point. During the Direct, it was also announced that all the previous Kingdom Hearts collections will be getting native ports for the Switch 2. This was rumored earlier this year, but now it has been officially confirmed.

The collections will be available on October 8, and players who have played the cloud versions on the Switch 1 will be able to transfer their save data over. Surprisingly, there was no mention of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during the Direct, despite it being previously confirmed for a Switch 2 release. However, Square Enix did reveal gameplay for a new Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off and a new Final Fantasy spin-off titled Final Fantasy Resonance.

This will be the first Final Fantasy game to use Square Enix's HD-2D art style and will be a traditional turn-based game, unlike the last few mainline entries. It will be available on October 22 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.
