The music world was abuzz with excitement as the Grammys approached, with many eagerly anticipating the tribute to the late D'Angelo. However, there was a slight snag in the plans as it was revealed that D'Angelo's son, Swayvo Twain, had not been invited to the event.
According to Loren Lorosa of The Breakfast Club, it was announced that Lauryn Hill would be performing a tribute to D'Angelo and Roberta Flack. However, Twain reached out to Lorosa to express his disappointment at not receiving an invitation from the Recording Academy.
Lorosa took to social media to share Twain's statement on the matter, in which he expressed his gratitude to the Recording Academy for honoring his father's legacy. Twain also stated that it would have been a pleasure to attend the tribute, but unfortunately, he and his siblings had not received an invitation. He added that their respect for their father's legacy would always come first.
As the news spread, fans and followers were quick to express their disappointment and frustration. In a later post, Lorosa revealed that someone from the Recording Academy had reached out to her to obtain Twain's information, as they had been trying to contact him without success.
However, there have been no further updates on whether Twain, whose real name is Michael Carter Jr., will attend the Grammy's tribute to his father. The Recording Academy did inform Lorosa that D'Angelo's daughter, Imani, and brother, Luther, would be attending the event.
Sadly, this news came after D'Angelo's passing in October of 2025. The influential artist had passed away at the age of 51 due to pancreatic cancer, leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Despite the initial setback, it seems that the Grammys are doing their best to honor D'Angelo's memory and legacy. It remains to be seen if Twain will join his sister and uncle at the event, but fans are hopeful that the Recording Academy will make things right and extend an invitation to him. In the meantime, we can all look forward to an incredible tribute to one of the greatest artists of our time.
