Indore: In a major breakthrough in the 2021 drug case in which drugs worth Rs 70 crore were seized in the city, Bilal Khan, the 25-year-old son of Kamaal Khan, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former state minorities commission member, has been arrested from Chhoti Gwaltoli after being on the run for two years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Agrawal stated that Khan allegedly had links with the local network of an inter-state MDMA smuggling racket and a reward of Rs 4,000 was declared for his arrest earlier.

Tannu Sharma, the local convener of the Bajrang Dal has also expressed his satisfaction as they had sought Khan's arrest during their protest against the drug mafia on June 15.

According to police reports, on January 5th 2021, a consignment of 70 kilograms of MDMA, popularly known as Ecstasy, worth Rs 70 crore was seized. This was the biggest MDMA drug seizure case in Madhya Pradesh and so far, 40 persons have been arrested in the case, including Ved Prakash Vyas, a pharmaceutical unit owner from Hyderabad in Telangana.

Vyas was previously a medical representative in a pharmaceutical company and had lived in Indore, Ujjain and Mandsaur. He was found to be running a factory that manufactured MDMA in Telangana under the pretext of manufacturing medicines. The consignment was supposed to be sent to South Africa from Indore.

In order to tackle the drug menace, the police is now taking up initiatives like rallies and street plays to spread the message of de-addiction and also setting up special revenue collection camps for the convenience of the taxpayers.
