On Friday morning, a high speed police chase ended in a shocking and alarming manner. 38-year-old JaJuan Burley had been pursued by police for an undisclosed violation when he made his way to his mother's home in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Once there, video captured by a bystander across the street showed Burley ram into his mother, Juanita Gray, 57. She was sent flying several feet into the air and a wailing sound was heard, although it is not known if it came from Gray or the onlooker.
At the time of the incident, several police cars and officers were already present at the scene. Reports suggest that Gray had been exchanging something with her son before getting back into his car when he suddenly rammed her. Although she refused medical treatment at the scene, she is expected to be okay.
The situation then took a dangerous turn as an officer fired at Burley, striking him. Both are expected to make a full recovery.
Burley has been charged with attempted murder, battery of a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness, disarming and resisting arrest in a vehicle, as well as narcotics charges. His mother has been questioned and faces a charge of obstruction of justice.
Crime tape surrounded the home on Winter Street as police continue to investigate the incident.
