It's been a quarter of a century since Ricky Walters, otherwise known as Slick Rick, released his last album. Now, that may be changing.
Celebrity photographer Jonathan Mannion posted a photo of himself and Slick Rick drinking champagne on Instagram, alluding to the rapper's upcoming music collection.
Slick Rick made his debut back in 1986 with his distinct storytelling style in the form of nursery rhymes. His first work was with Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew, releasing the single "The Show" with the B-Side cut "La Di Da Di". His solo project, "The Great Adventures of Slick Rick", was released in 1988 on Def Jam Records. This album cemented his status as one of the best storytellers in hip-hop history.
His last album, "The Art of Storytelling", was released in 1999.
Mannion's post read: "We collaborate well. As I did the first time that I ever photographed the incomparable @therulernyc in 1998, I brought champagne to toast him. @moetchandon always flowing. I was also 'knighted' again… a renewal of vows, of sorts… with nearly every piece of his legendary gold, platinum, diamond-encrusted heavy metal available weighing down my neck. Beyond honored! @directedbysam."
This announcement comes on the heels of Slick Rick's performances celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. He was well-received when he performed the hits that have made him a household name among hip-hop fans.
It looks like Slick Rick is getting ready to make a comeback! We can't wait to hear the new music and see the new photos from Jonathan Mannion.
