SC will seek Greater Noida magistrate's clarification on the notice given to a student for protesting at Jantar Mantar.

In New Delhi, the Supreme Court expressed its intention on Wednesday to inquire about the actions of the Greater Noida executive magistrate who had sent a notice to a student for participating in the protest organized by CJP at Jantar Mantar. Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, raised concerns about how the executive magistrate could have taken such a step when the top court had previously directed that no punitive measures would be taken against students. A lawyer brought up the issue before a three-judge panel, led by CJI Kant, stating that an "experiment" was being conducted on students and that the notice, which was later revoked, went against the court's order.

CJI Kant agreed with the lawyer, stating that "there is no question of taking action against our youth" and that the court had made it clear in its previous order. He also expressed surprise at the magistrate's actions, as the court had explicitly stated that no punitive measures would be taken against any student. CJI Kant instructed the lawyer to provide all the necessary information and evidence regarding the matter, stating that the court would ask for an explanation from the executive magistrate.

The three-judge panel also included Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana. According to officials, a student from Gautam Buddha University, Akshat Tripathi, had allegedly participated in the protest organized by CJP at Jantar Mantar and was served a notice by the Greater Noida Executive Magistrate, demanding a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh to maintain peace. However, the notice was later revoked.

The student, Akshat Tripathi, denied the allegations and claimed that he had participated in the protest peacefully and was not attending university classes at the time. The notice was issued on September 4 under Section 130 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. This news was reported by PTI and published by Orissa POST, which is Odisha's No.1 English Daily.
