Punjab police have arrested two drug smugglers in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF) from near the international border in Gurdaspur sector. The operation led to the seizure of 12kg of heroin and Rs 19.3 lakh in cash.
Director General of Police, Punjab Gaurav Yadav, shared the news on X and said, “This is a big blow to the Trans Border narcotic network. Gurdaspur Police and BSF have seized 12 kg of heroin and Rs 19.3 lakh drug money from the smugglers.”
The BSF officer further explained that an intrusion by a drone was noticed near Chaura Kalan village in Gurdaspur district Sunday morning. A joint search operation by the BSF and Punjab police was conducted, resulting in the smugglers attempting to flee the spot. However, both of them were apprehended.
In addition to this, the accused revealed that 12 packets of the narcotics and the cash had been dropped by the drone which was later recovered by the search parties.
In another incident, a BSF team shot down a drone near Mahawa village Amritsar on Saturday and 500 gram of narcotics were recovered.
FIR under NDPS Act has been registered and investigations are underway. Punjab Police is committed to making the state drug-free, as per the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
