Police in Bengal find over Rs 2 crore in cash at TMC leader's farm.

The West Bengal Police has made an important announcement today regarding the recent arrest of Dipankar Bhattacharya, the chairman of Trinamool Congress-controlled Baduria Municipality in North 24 Parganas district. It has been confirmed that a total of Rs 3.04 crore has been recovered from Bhattacharya, which includes the Rs 80 lakh seized from him during his arrest and an additional Rs 2.24 crore recovered from his farmland. According to an official of the state police, the currencies, mostly in Rs 500 denominations, were thoroughly counted multiple times in the presence of bank officers before the final amount was declared.

The police had received information from sources that Bhattacharya had hidden more cash in his farmland, which led them to the discovery of four trolley bags and one sack filled with money. Bhattacharya was arrested on Monday at a hotel in Baduria and was produced before a district court on Tuesday. He has been remanded to police custody for further interrogation.

It is said that during the questioning, Bhattacharya admitted to the presence of more cash in his farmland, which led to the recent recovery. This is not the first time that allegations of corruption have been made against Bhattacharya. In the past, the police had recovered 4,000 government tarpaulins from a local Trinamool Congress office and a garden house owned by Bhattacharya.

Two separate complaints were filed against him, one by CPI and the other by Bharatiya Janata Party, which ultimately led to his arrest. The police suspect that Bhattacharya received commissions for allotments under the state's housing scheme, 'Banglar Bari', which was introduced during the previous Trinamool Congress regime. He is also accused of extorting money from local residents, especially traders in Baduria.

These charges have raised questions about how he could possess such a large amount of cash. It is a significant development in the ongoing investigation, and the police are determined to uncover the truth behind Bhattacharya's alleged corrupt activities. The people of West Bengal are eager to see justice served and for the state to be free from corruption.
