In Nabarangpur district, a shocking incident has come to light where a Class IX student was reportedly raped on the premises of her high school during school hours. The incident occurred on August 21, but it was only discovered on Friday when the police visited the school to investigate. Upon receiving a complaint from the girl's family, the Tentulikhunti police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The authorities have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the alleged perpetrator. According to the complaint, the girl had left her classroom to use the restroom when she encountered an unknown individual in an open area behind the school toilet. This is where the assault took place.
The accused reportedly threatened her with a knife and warned her not to disclose the incident. After the incident, the girl returned to her school and informed one of her teachers. The school authorities then informed her family and the president of the school management committee.
The school also filed a complaint at the Kamata police outpost. On Friday, Additional SP Aditya Sen and Nabarangpur SDPO Krishna Chandra Bhattacharya visited the school to review the circumstances surrounding the incident. In order to gather evidence, the police are examining CCTV footage, call detail records, and mobile phone location data.
The case is being investigated by Sub-inspector Binita Tankis of Tentulikhunti police station. Upon hearing about the incident, members of Maa Ghar, including Dr. Kadambini Tripathy, and former Zilla Parishad member Nalini Prabha Hial, visited the school to show their support and urged the authorities to ensure justice for the young girl.
