One reader explains why they are taking a week off work to attend the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
As I eagerly await the release of the new Nintendo Switch 2, I can't help but reflect on how quickly time has flown by since the original Switch launched over eight years ago. It feels like just yesterday, yet also like a lifetime ago. I wholeheartedly agree with those who say it's the best console ever made, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase and the multitude of games I've acquired for it. While the previews for Switch 2 have all been positive, I don't feel the need to read them; I'm more than willing to take a chance and get it on day one. In fact, I've already planned my days off to fully immerse myself in the new console.

Unfortunately, I'm a bit disappointed that I won't be able to attend any of the midnight launches. It's great to hear that they're still happening, but I had already pre-ordered my Switch 2 directly from Nintendo. So on Thursday, I'll be stuck at home anxiously waiting for the postman to ring my doorbell.

Thankfully, he'll be delivering not only the console but also the Mario Kart World bundle. I also plan on purchasing Welcome Tour, Split Fiction, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Civilization 7, and upgrades for both Zelda games and Super Mario Party Jamboree. Some may argue that the launch line-up for Switch 2 isn't that impressive, and while I do wish there were more exclusives, both first and third-party, we have to remember that it's June. Whether there's a hardware launch or not, this isn't exactly the prime time for video game purchases. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

But with my list of games, I'm sure I'll be occupied for quite some time. That's why I took a whole week off to fully indulge in my new console. It may sound crazy to some, but it's not as wild as it seems. The console comes out on Thursday, and the following day is the start of Summer Game Fest, which begins late at night. I'd rather not come home exhausted from work only to stay up late watching the event. And on Sunday, the Xbox Summer Showcase takes place - I'm not particularly interested, but there may be some Switch 2 news. Plus, if the weather is nice, I thought, why not take a full week off, or at least through Wednesday? This will give me enough time to play my new console, watch and recover from the showcases, and still have some quality time with my partner.

I'm looking forward to a week full of video game indulgence. In a world that seems increasingly bleak, the thought of spending my time playing video games is quite appealing. We all know that Mario Kart World is going to be amazing, but I also can't wait to dive into Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC, try out the mouse controls for Civilization 7, and play co-op with my partner on Split Fiction - a game I've been holding off on playing until now. And not to mention, I'll finally get to experience remastered versions of two of the best Zelda games and some fun new party games for Super Mario Party, which also utilizes the GameChat camera - a feature I'm also investing in. It may seem like a lot all at once, but I believe I deserve it, and I finally have the time to enjoy it all.

As for what I'm hoping to see from the upcoming showcases, I'm really hoping for a Nintendo Direct, although as of this writing, it hasn't been announced yet. Of course, I'd love for there to be a surprise Nintendo game released just in time for Christmas, preferably a 3D Mario, but I don't think that's very likely. However, I do think there may be some small extra surprises and maybe even a sneak peek at what's to come next year.

I still have my PlayStation 5, so I'm also interested in any announcements for that, especially Resident Evil 9 or Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, but at the moment, I'm all about the Switch 2. I hope it lives up to the legacy of its predecessor, but at the moment, I have no reason to doubt it. And with all the time in the world to play and enjoy it, I can't wait for the release of the new Nintendo Switch 2.
