The city of Bhubaneswar in Odisha was abuzz with excitement as Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati inaugurated a brand new rooftop solar power plant at Lok Bhavan. The event was graced by the presence of KP Mahadevaswamy, CMD of National Buildings Construction Corporation, and took place on a sunny Saturday morning. Governor Kambhampati expressed his delight in being a part of this significant step towards sustainable development.
He noted that this initiative aligns perfectly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a greener and self-reliant India. The governor also mentioned that the campus now boasts a total solar capacity of 635 kW, with the newly inaugurated 485 kWp rooftop solar power plant being the latest addition. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting the adoption of renewable energy, which will ultimately contribute to building a more sustainable future for generations to come.
The solar projects at Lok Bhavan, executed by NBCC Limited, cover various buildings within the complex. The Abhishek banquet hall, for instance, now has a solar panel with a capacity of 191 kWp, making it the highest in the campus. The governor stressed the need for a shift towards renewable energy sources, given the global energy crisis and rising prices.
He urged citizens to follow Prime Minister Modi's appeal and opt for electric vehicles to reduce their dependence on imported crude oil. He also highlighted the importance of using green energy sources like solar power to meet the rising demand for electricity. Governor Kambhampati applauded the efforts of the central and state governments in promoting the use of solar energy through schemes like PM Surya Ghar Yojana and subsidy support in Odisha.
He also mentioned the success of initiatives like ethanol blending and flex-fuel vehicles in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. In a proud moment for Lok Bhavan, the governor shared that the complex has taken significant steps towards its Net Zero goal by switching to electric vehicles and implementing environmentally responsible practices. This achievement would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of every individual involved.
