Mum escapes with severe injuries after shielding a calf from a cow's trampling.
Debbie Duffus had a horrific experience on her farm; she was nearly trampled to death by a cow that was protecting her newborn calf. The 54-year-old mother of three suffered multiple crush injuries, internal bleeding, and a broken leg. Despite her injuries, Debbie managed to drag herself back to the farmhouse.

Ten minutes later, her husband Andy, 57, found her lying on the kitchen floor and quickly called an ambulance. An air ambulance soon arrived at the property near Tomintoul, Moray, in Scotland and got her to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in less than 20 minutes. Debbie believes the speed at which she was transported by the helicopter, operated by Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance, saved her life.

Debbie made a remarkable recovery and was released from the hospital in only nine days, despite the severity of her injuries. She recalled the accident, saying, "The cow acted on instinct because I was going near her baby and I acted on instinct to try and save the calf. It’s just one of those things. I managed to crawl out of the field on my knees because she’d crushed the bottom of my leg and broke it."

Debbie is incredibly thankful for the SCAA teams who saved her and is now raising money to help increase their helicopter numbers. The cow's calf and its twin sibling will be sold when they're old enough and the money raised will be donated to the charity. SCAA responds to two time-critical emergency call outs every single day, but they receive no government funding and rely 100% on donations from the public to fuel their life-saving flights.
