Tragedy struck a family outing near Franconia Falls on Tuesday when Melissa Bagley, a 44-year-old mother of four, drowned while trying to save one of her children from a fast-flowing pool.
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division and Operation Game Thief reported that Melissa's 10-year-old son had slipped and fallen into the pool and was unable to get out. Without hesitation, Melissa jumped in to help him and quickly found herself in trouble.
Two of her other children also attempted to help, managing to rescue the one in the pool, but the fourth sibling became stuck in the boulders. While Melissa's husband, Everett Police Lt Sean Bagley, searched for her, rescue crews arrived to find her deceased and two people injured, but not life-threateningly so.
The Everett Police Department released a statement saying that Melissa had died while trying to aid one of her children. They requested that Lt Bagley and his family be given the time and space to mourn the death of Melissa.
