Odisha signs agreements to boost local travel by supporting homestays, preserving heritage sites, and promoting adventure tourism.

On a pleasant Sunday in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha Tourism Department took a significant step towards promoting tourism in the state by signing multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements aim to facilitate the establishment of homestays and promote adventure and heritage tourism. The first MoU was signed with the State Bank of India, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, to provide financial support for the development of homestays.

This move will not only benefit the tourism sector but also provide livelihood opportunities for local communities. In addition, the Department of Tourism signed another MoU with the Indian Kayaking & Canoeing Association to expand the scope of adventure tourism in Odisha. This partnership will bring new and exciting experiences for tourists in the state.

The third MoU was signed between the Department of Tourism and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to strengthen the institutional framework for heritage tourism. This collaboration will ensure the preservation and promotion of India's rich heritage assets for tourists to experience. During the event, Deputy Chief Minister Parida highlighted the potential of tourism in creating livelihood opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship, and involving local communities in the state's growth story.

She also stressed the importance of incorporating technology, sustainability, innovation, and community participation to enhance the tourism ecosystem in Odisha. Chief Secretary Anu Garg also emphasized the need for coordinated efforts, institutional partnerships, and innovation in strengthening the tourism sector. This will not only benefit local communities but also enhance the overall visitor experience.

To enhance tourist mobility and provide improved travel experiences, Parida flagged off luxury coaches by the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC). The event also included a screening of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat and an Odisha Tourism video showcasing the state's diverse offerings. Moreover, a virtual flag-off of the OTDC EV Boat at Barkul and the Catamaran at Chilika lake was held during the programme.

The Director General of ASI, Yadubir Singh Rawat, also highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting India's heritage assets as a crucial part of the tourism experience. The event concluded with the distribution of Provisional Registration Certificates to 17 beneficiaries under the Homestay scheme and the inauguration of the light and sound show at Khandagiri by Parida. These efforts on World Tourism Day will contribute towards building a more inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready tourism sector in Odisha.
