"What is your favorite game from Rare?"

Readers debate Rare's best game while one explains why they sold their Xbox Series X console.

What is your favorite game from Rare? The letters page on Friday couldn't decide which game they thought was the best from Rare, and one reader even shared why he sold his Xbox Series X console. It's always interesting to see different opinions and perspectives from our readers here at Games Inbox, where we gather letters, comments, and opinions from all of you.

If you want to join in on the discussions, feel free to email us at the provided email address. One of our readers wrote a great article about Rare and how Microsoft initially made some wrong decisions when it came to acquiring companies and making them first-party. Some may argue that they did well with Bungie, but considering how they eventually let them go and the current state of the Halo franchise, it's not a complete success.

As for my personal thoughts on Rare, I have a mix of opinions. I have fond memories of their games on the N64, but when I go back to play them now, they don't seem to have aged well. GoldenEye 007 used to be my favorite, but even with the remastered version on the Nintendo Switch, the magic just isn't there anymore.

Maybe it's one of those games that you just had to play during its time to truly appreciate it. I feel the same about Banjo-Kazooie, so it's difficult for me to pinpoint which game of theirs is the best. However, I have a feeling that it may actually be Sea Of Thieves, which may seem like a boring answer.

Instead, I'll go with Blast Corps. It may be a simple game, but it's still just as fun now as it was when it first came out. I'm curious to hear what others think, especially if they've played the games recently.

Moving on to a different topic, I have to say that the GTA Collector's Edition is the biggest waste of money I've ever seen. It's priced at £350, but I can't seem to find anything in there that would be worth more than £20, except for maybe the Oakley sunglasses. The bag and hat may also be worth something if they're from a cool brand that I'm not aware of, but a spoon?

A keychain? A sticker pack? And don't even get me started on that cheap-looking alligator figure.

It's worse than an amiibo, and those are less than £20. It just doesn't make sense to me. And to top it off, the map used to come with the game for free when physical copies were still a thing.

I'm not saying that GTA 6 won't be worth the money, but this collector's edition is just not worth it at all. I'd love to hear from someone who thinks otherwise. On a more serious note, I completely agree with the reader who mentioned the difference between how Japanese and US companies operate.

However, I believe it's more related to corporate law rather than the people running the companies. Companies like Microsoft are restricted by their obligations to shareholders and quarterly results, which often comes at the expense of long-term investments and talent. Instead of just pointing out the issue, people like Asha Sharma should be trying to bring about change within US corporate law.

If the US adopted some of Japan's regulations, it could benefit not just gaming companies, but also other industries in terms of how they treat their employees, customers, and the environment. It's evident that something is broken when a company like Microsoft has to lay off a large number of employees just to avoid being sued by shareholders. It's a shame and a wake-up call for the need for change.

Speaking of Microsoft, am I just becoming an old dad in my 40s or do they not realize the potential they have? Diddy Kong Racing was an amazing game back in the day, even better than Mario Kart 64 in my opinion. It was the first open-world racer, if I'm not mistaken (please correct me if I'm wrong).

I remember asking my mom for a N64 with Diddy Kong Racing for Christmas, and she got it for me for only £99 at Comet. But where is Diddy Kong Racing 2? GoldenEye 2?

We did get Perfect Dark, but just imagine how much better it would have been with the original licenses. And what about Conker's Bad Fur Day 2? I plead with Microsoft to stop merging studios and start acknowledging their past and the great games they had in front of them.

Lastly, I have to say that I was quite disappointed after reading your review of Control Resonant. Control was one of the most enjoyable games I've played in recent years. I loved Jesse as the main character, the Bureau was intriguing, and the Hiss were creepy.

The game has stayed with me even years after playing it. I was eagerly anticipating the sequel, but after reading your review, it seems more like a chore than a fun experience. I'll probably wait until it's available for free on Epic in a couple of years before trying it out.

What's your favorite game from Rare? The Friday letters page is having trouble deciding which one is the best, especially after one reader shared why he sold his Xbox Series X console. Games Inbox is a compilation of our readers' letters, comments, and opinions.

If you want to join the discussion, feel free to email us at [email address]. I recently read an interesting article about Rare and how Microsoft didn't make the best decisions when acquiring companies and making them first party. While some may argue that they did well with Bungie, their handling of the company and the current state of Halo doesn't exactly scream success.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about Rare. I have fond memories of their games on the N64, but when I go back and play them now, they haven't aged well. GoldenEye 007 used to be my favorite, but even with the updated version on Nintendo Switch Online, it just doesn't have the same magic anymore.

Perhaps it's something you had to experience at the time. I feel the same about Banjo-Kazooie. It's hard for me to say which game is their "best" because even though I have a feeling it might be Sea Of Thieves, it seems like a boring answer.

Instead, I'm going to go with Blast Corps. It may be a simple game, but it's just as fun now as it was when it first came out. I'm curious to hear what others think, especially if they've played the games recently.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but I have to say it - the GTA Collector's Edition is a complete waste of money. It costs £350, but I can't see anything in it that's worth more than £20. The only exception may be the Oakley sunglasses.

Maybe the bag and hat are from a cool brand that I'm not aware of, but a spoon? A keychain? A sticker pack?

And don't get me started on that cheap-looking alligator figure. It's even worse than an amiibo, and those are less than £20. I just don't understand the appeal.

And to top it off, the map used to come free with the game when you bought it in a box. I'm sure GTA 6 will be a great value for money, but this collector's edition is just the worst. I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks otherwise.

I agree with Focus that there's a significant difference between how Japanese and US companies operate, but I believe it has more to do with corporate law than the people running the companies. Companies like Microsoft are restricted by their obligation to prioritize shareholders and quarterly results, often at the expense of investing in talent and long-term growth. People like Asha Sharma should focus on advocating for changes in US corporate law.

Japan has regulations in place that allow their corporations to operate in a way that benefits both customers and employees. If these ideals were incorporated into US law, it would not only benefit gaming companies, but also other companies in terms of how they treat their staff, customers, and the environment. It's concerning when a company like Microsoft has to lay off a large number of employees just to avoid being sued by shareholders.

It's clear that something is broken in the system. Am I just getting old or does Microsoft not realize they have a goldmine? Diddy Kong Racing was amazing back in the day, even better than Mario Kart 64 in my opinion.

It was also the first open world racing game, unless I'm mistaken. I remember asking my mom for a N64 with Diddy Kong Racing for Christmas and that was all I needed. It was only £99 from Comet.

But now, there's no Diddy Kong Racing 2 or GoldenEye 2. We do have Perfect Dark, but it would have been even better if it had the license. I'm begging Microsoft to please give us Conker's Bad Fur Day 2.

It's frustrating to see them constantly talking about their new studios and not acknowledging their past successes. Those were the games that made them great. I have to say, I was disappointed reading the review for Control's expansion, Control Resonant.

I loved the first game and thought it was a great experience. Jesse was a fantastic main character, the Bureau was intriguing, and the Hiss were creepy. The game has stuck with me even years after playing it.

I was really looking forward to the sequel, but after reading your review, it seems like it would be more of a chore than an enjoyable experience. I'll probably wait until it's a free game on the Epic Store in a couple of years.
