Minister in Odisha urges prompt assistance for Mayurbhanj following destructive whirlwind.

The city of Bhubaneswar was abuzz with activity as the Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, took charge on Tuesday. He had an urgent task at hand - to direct the Mayurbhanj district administration to provide speedy relief to the people affected by the recent "whirlwind" that had hit multiple villages. As per officials, this "whirlwind" was a powerful storm with circular winds that had struck several villages in the Karanjia block on Sunday afternoon.

Sadly, two people had lost their lives and 38 others were injured. The official data revealed that a total of 3,217 individuals across nine villages were affected by this natural disaster. To make matters worse, 512 houses and crops spread over 111 hectares were also damaged due to the strong winds.

In an effort to provide immediate assistance, the Odisha government had released Rs 5.70 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund. This amount would go towards providing house-building assistance, clothing, utensils, and relief camps. During a review meeting, Minister Pujari urged the district collector to ensure that the house-building assistance was distributed within the next two days.

Currently, six relief centers were operational, providing free meals to 2,200 beneficiaries. Additionally, 1,450 polythene sheets were distributed among the affected families. The officials also shared that drinking water was being supplied through tankers and bottles, and three medical teams and four fire service units were deployed in the affected areas.

The minister took note of this and emphasized the need for additional health camps to be set up. He also stressed on the importance of providing proper care for expectant mothers during this difficult time.
