Tarun Vyas, secretary of the Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh and member of the state GST grievance redressal committee, has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to demand the establishment of a GST Appellate Tribunal in the city. The same demand has also been made to the MP and Chief Commissioner GST, Bhopal Zone.
Vyas expressed his disappointment on Monday, revealing that the recently issued notification of the Government of India has made it clear that the GST Tribunal will be established in Bhopal instead of Indore. This decision has been strongly opposed by the industry and business community of the city.
In the letter sent to the Union Finance Minister, Vyas highlighted the fact that Madhya Pradesh is a large state and Indore is the industrial and commercial capital of the state. He believes that it is prima facie important to establish the tribunal here. He further stated that many states, even those which are smaller than Madhya Pradesh, have more than one tribunal. However, Madhya Pradesh is only allowed to have one.
The industrialists and businessmen of the city are deeply aggrieved by this decision. They will now have to travel to Bhopal for tribunal-related work, which is a tedious task. Moreover, people from the nearby districts of the city, such as Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Badwani, Sendhwa, Jhabua, and Dhar, will also have to travel to Bhopal. This will not only be time consuming but also financially expensive.
