Residents of Mapusa, Goa were alarmed when news of a theft in a nearby pay-parking bay at the Sanjeevani Sugar factory spread on Sunday. It was reported that around six to seven mobiles and ₹40,000 in cash had been stolen from trucks parked in the factory compound.
The compound is known to house a large number of trucks from outside the state and the factory earns some revenue from the pay-parking venture. It appears that the theft was carried out by unidentified persons who managed to lower the glasses of the trucks and steal the mobiles, cash, and some kitchen appliances.
Nagraj Naidu, president of the Ponda Heavy Vehicle Transport Organisation, expressed his concern over the rising incidents of thefts in the area. He called for a proper truck terminus to be established, so that the truck drivers can park safely at night.
The Administrator of the Sanjeevani Sugar factory, Satej Kamat, has confirmed the thefts and has stated that CCTV cameras will be installed soon to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
In addition, a youth has also been held by the Goan police for buying a stolen phone in Mapusa. The police have urged citizens to be alert and be aware of such criminal activities taking place in the area.
