India's economy has the potential for continued growth, according to Finance Minister Sitharaman.

On Monday, Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman spoke about India's economic performance at the Mindmine Summit 2026. While acknowledging that the country has been doing well, she emphasized the need for continuous innovation, reforms, and institutional strengthening to sustain long-term momentum. According to Sitharaman, economic growth alone is not enough.

It must be supported by strong institutions, effective policies, and robust support systems to ensure durable and inclusive development. She stressed the importance of carefully evaluating India's performance and identifying areas for improvement. In a large and complex economy like India's, sustaining growth requires constant efforts to improve capabilities, efficiency, and ensure that the benefits of development reach all sections of society.

The global economic environment is constantly evolving, and India's policy frameworks must remain adaptable and robust. Sitharaman also cautioned against assuming that progress is guaranteed. She highlighted the need for continuous effort, innovation, and reform to maintain momentum.

While some sectors have performed well, others still require policy attention, especially those dealing with complex and intermediate products and services. The finance minister urged policymakers to address long-standing challenges through structural reforms, better implementation, or new policy approaches. These issues have been discussed for years, and the key question remains - how will they be addressed in the future?

Sitharaman assured that the government is focused on preparing for future challenges and adapting policy responses to changing circumstances. She also acknowledged the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on planning and expectations, but reassured that no major disruptions are expected. Sitharaman also highlighted the government's preparations for a weaker monsoon this year due to the El Nino phenomenon. She mentioned that some areas may experience dry spells while others may face excessive rainfall. However, the government is taking necessary measures to mitigate the impact of a not-so-good monsoon.
