I laughed off the idea when my son proposed I marry his friend's father, but now he's my spouse.

My elder son Taylor shouted out 'Mum, would you marry Harry's dad so me and Harry can be siblings?' while on the school run. I was embarrassed and wanted the ground to open up! It was July 2017 and I had just been single for a month; I was not searching for a new relationship, let alone with my son's best friend's dad.

I had to explain to Taylor that 'it doesn't function like that' and that I had no idea who Harry's dad was. She introduced us and I was pleasantly surprised that he was actually attractive!

We had a chat and then he asked me out, proposing the idea of trying out the kids' theory. I was intrigued and said 'why not?'. We went out on a date to celebrate Harry's birthday and it felt like we were a family.

Afterwards, he asked me out for dinner and drinks, but I was still a bit hesitant as I had been hurt in my last relationship. I was mortified, as I was not looking for a new relationship and certainly not one with my son's best friend's dad.

I explained to him that it doesn't quite work like that and I had no idea who Harry's dad was. However, when I went out with some friends and mentioned it to one of them, she said she knew him and offered to introduce us. We ended up going on a date with our kids and afterwards had dinner and drinks at the local pub.
