Former Manchester United player and legend, Dwight Yorke, recently shared some insight on the club's recent managerial and transfer decisions. In an interview with BoyleSports, Yorke revealed that he had advised Manchester United to sign two current superstars and hire Unai Emery before the appointment of Ruben Amorim. Yorke was a strong advocate for Emery to take over at Old Trafford when the club turned to Portuguese boss Amorim.
However, Amorim's 14-month tenure at the club was hugely underwhelming and resulted in his eventual sacking. The club was once again linked with Emery following Amorim's departure, but interim manager Michael Carrick earned a permanent contract after impressing in his role. But Yorke's advice to his former club did not stop at managerial recommendations.
He also revealed that he had endorsed transfer moves for Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. Eze, who now plays for Arsenal, helped the club win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final last season after completing a £68m move from Crystal Palace. Olise, on the other hand, has become one of the best attacking players in world football since leaving Palace for Bayern Munich.
"I've told Manchester United in the past to go and sign players. I told them to sign Michael Olise before he went to Bayern Munich. I told them to sign Eberechi Eze.
This was years before anyone said anything about him moving to Arsenal. I said go and spend £100m to sign these two players for United," Yorke shared. However, his suggestions were met with skepticism from the club, who raised their eyebrows and questioned why they should spend that much money on these players.
But Yorke's foresight has been proven right, with both Eze and Olise now highly sought-after players. Yorke's latest transfer plea to Manchester United is to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The 18-year-old impressed at the World Cup for quarter-finalists Morocco and has attracted interest from top clubs such as Arsenal and Manchester City.
"I'm telling them, go and get Bouaddi now. That's the young midfielder you need to build this team around. He is the future.
From what I see of him playing for Morocco, I think there is something special about him," Yorke urged. Despite already signing two midfielders this summer, including Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, Carrick is still looking to add a third midfielder following the departure of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte's serious injury. Yorke believes that Bouaddi has the potential to become a top player with the right coaching and exposure, especially under the guidance of a master like Carrick.
He added, "He's very comfortable on the ball, he plays in the right position, and he's even got some nice creativity too. He's still learning the job, but with the right guidance, he will only get better." Yorke's advice has proven to be valuable in the past, and he hopes that Manchester United will listen to his latest suggestions. With the club's recent track record of transfer successes, it would be wise for them to consider Yorke's recommendations.
