Court extends custody of actor Darshan and associates by 5 days in Renukaswamy murder case.
In Bengaluru, a court has granted an extension of five more days to the police custody of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, his friend Pavithra Gowda, and eleven others. They are all facing charges in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. The court hearing was held on Saturday as their initial six-day police custody was coming to an end on Sunday. Since the court would be closed on Sunday and Monday for the public holiday, the police decided to bring them before Judge Vishwanath C Goudar.

As a result, Darshan, Gowda, and the others will remain in police custody until June 20. The advocates representing Darshan and his associates requested the court to transfer them to judicial custody. However, the investigation team argued that they still needed to recover crucial evidence and equipment used in the torture of the deceased, and therefore, requested an extension of police custody.

After hearing both sides, the 21st Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court granted the extension of police custody. Darshan, who is famously known as "Challenging Star," and twelve of his close associates were arrested on Tuesday for the murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of the actor. According to sources, Renukaswamy, who was from Chitradurga, made some comments on the social media account of Gowda, a small-time actress, accusing her of causing a rift between Darshan and his wife. He also allegedly used inappropriate language and posted offensive messages, as reported by the police.

Further investigation revealed that one of the accused, Raghavendra, who is a member of Darshan's fan club in Chitradurga, invited Renukaswamy to a shed in R R Nagar, under the pretense of a meeting with the actor. It was in this shed that the victim was allegedly tortured and killed. His body was later found near a stormwater drain next to an apartment in Sumanahalli on June 9.

The investigation team has reportedly gathered enough evidence, including CCTV footage, to establish that Darshan was present during the assault on Renukaswamy, which resulted in his death. Sources also mentioned that the victim had sustained multiple injuries on his body. In addition, the police took Darshan to his residence in R R Nagar on Friday night for a spot "mahazar" and have seized certain items, including clothes.

PTI reported that the investigation team is confident in their findings and has enough evidence to support the charges against Darshan and his associates. The court's decision to extend their police custody will allow for further investigation and the recovery of crucial evidence.
