Actress Rasika Dugal credits this movie for reviving her career.

In a recent interview with IANS, actress Rasika Dugal reflected on the ups and downs of her career and how a particular project helped revive her success. The project in question is the 2018 biographical drama Manto, which she believes played a significant role in taking her career out of a slump. Rasika took a moment to look back at the pivotal moments in her journey, including her acclaimed roles as Beena Tripathi in Mirzapur and Safiya in Manto.

She shared how playing Safiya not only gave her artistic fulfillment but also holds a special place in her heart. "Beena has brought me fame, a larger audience, and a box-office hit. But Safiya will always be a crucial part of my life because it is a story about a celebrated writer," she shared.

The actress also highlighted the importance of director Nandita Das's vision for the film, which focused on Safiya's story rather than just presenting her as a supporting character. "The film tells Manto's story but does not neglect his wife's story. That was the director's intention.

Nandita Das is a sensitive director, and my co-actor was equally talented and sensitive. Safiya was never treated as a secondary character on set," Rasika explained. She also touched upon the significance of bringing women's perspectives into stories that have traditionally focused on prominent male figures.

"Safiya's story is beautifully told, while Manto's story has been told countless times. It's common for us to remember the stories of men and forget those of women," she added. Rasika expressed her pride in being a part of a film that consciously brought Safiya's journey to the forefront.

"Manto did not fall into that trap. I am incredibly proud of that," she said. Currently, Rasika is basking in the success of her latest release, Mirzapur 2, where she plays the powerful character of Beena Tripathi.
