Boy loses both legs due to severe Group A Strep infection; CDC urges caution to prevent similar cases.
New warnings have been issued after a bacterial infection caused a 7-year-old Black boy from Michigan to have his legs amputated. Good Morning America reported that Michele Stevenson of Grand Blanc initially thought her son, Kaden, just had a stomach bug shortly before Christmas and allowed him to rest. However, her mother's intuition kicked in and she noticed his leg was swollen and he had a rash all over his body. Stevenson then took him to the Hurley Children's Hospital in Flint and he was diagnosed with invasive strep A, a bacterial infection that could attack multiple parts of the body, including bones, lungs and blood. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a warning last December after at least five children in Illinois died following infections.

Kaden was lucky and his mother told him how other kids have lost their lives to this infection. He said he was going to be strong for the little boy who passed away. Invasive group A strep is a dangerous but rare disease that leads to 2,300 deaths in the United States each year, usually seen in children. As Kaden awaits his new "robot legs," Stevenson is looking to raise awareness for other parents. She advises that if a child has any signs of fever, complains of pain or has any rashes, they should be taken to the emergency immediately and that parents should listen to their children if they say they don't feel good.

Do not take it lightly and get it checked out.
