Kolkata: It has been reported that Abhishek Banerjee, the general secretary of Trinamool Congress and a member of Lok Sabha, will be heading to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters of West Bengal Police on Sunday to answer questions about a case involving signature discrepancies. Apparently, some signatures of Trinamool legislators on an official document submitted to the West Bengal Assembly have been called into question. This will be Banerjee's second visit to the CID office for interrogation in this particular case.
He had previously spent six hours there on June 11, after being directed by a single-judge vacation bench of the Calcutta High Court to appear before 6 p.m. on that day. Interestingly, Kunal Ghosh, a member of Trinamool Congress and a former journalist, has also been summoned to the CID headquarters for questioning on Sunday.
Sources suggest that the CID officers may even interview Banerjee and Ghosh together. But the interrogation doesn't end there for Banerjee. On Monday, June 15, he is expected to be questioned by the Enforcement Directorate at their office in Salt Lake, located in the northern outskirts of Kolkata.
This is in connection with a case involving a large sum of money being exchanged for school job positions in West Bengal. The ED had issued a notice to Banerjee on June 3 regarding this matter. And if that wasn't enough, Banerjee is also scheduled to appear at the CID headquarters again on Tuesday, June 16.
This time, he will be facing questions about a case where he has been accused of inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the recently concluded state Assembly elections. The CID officials served him a notice for this case on June 12. It seems like Banerjee will have a busy couple of days ahead of him, with three different interrogations lined up.
The case involving signature mismatch, the cash-for-school-job case, and the allegations of inciting violence and threatening a government official are all serious matters that require a thorough investigation. It remains to be seen how Banerjee will handle the pressure and what information will be revealed through these interrogations. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
