According to reports coming out of Spain, Barcelona is eyeing Tottenham Hotspur's right-back, Pedro Porro. After spending four seasons in the Premier League, Porro's initial loan move from Sporting CP in January 2023 was made permanent for a whopping £39.7 million just six months later. This past summer, the 26-year-old was a vital part of Spain's World Cup-winning squad, starting in all but one game.
Meanwhile, Barcelona is facing some uncertainty with their own right-back, Jules Kounde, being linked to a possible move to Arsenal. It seems that manager Mikel Arteta is eager to bring in another defender before the summer transfer window closes. In an effort to secure a potential replacement for Kounde, Barcelona has reached out to Porro and his representatives.
According to Gerard Romero, who spoke on his show Jijantes on Tuesday night, there has been contact made with Porro's camp. "Contact has been made in recent days with Pedro Porro, with the full-back's entourage," Romero announced. "He is one of the highest-paid players at Tottenham, having recently renewed his contract, but Barcelona has made their interest known in case Kounde decides to leave." It's no secret that Kounde has received numerous offers from Premier League clubs, but so far, he has not shown any signs of wanting to depart.
However, the situation is still open, and anything can happen. Back in June, Porro inked a new contract with Tottenham, securing his place with the club until 2031. His head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, spoke highly of the full-back, praising his versatility and work ethic.
"Pedro is a crucial player for us, who consistently showcases his ability to impact the game both defensively and offensively," De Zerbi remarked. "Aside from his technical skills, I am also impressed by his mentality. He is always eager to learn, improve, and give his all every day.
These are the traits that help players reach the highest level." De Zerbi continued, "He understands the game in a very astute manner and brings energy, intensity, and personality to the team. His contract extension is excellent news for everyone at the club. We believe in Pedro, and I am excited to continue working with him and helping him achieve even greater success in the years to come." Have you heard the latest transfer news?
