A man is sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife by setting her on fire.

In a tragic incident that took place in the city of Brahmapur, a man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 28-year-old wife. The court in Odisha's Ganjam district announced the verdict on Tuesday, holding the accused, Suddam Hussein Khan, responsible for setting his wife, Sinima Bibi, on fire four years ago. The government lawyer confirmed the news, stating that the Additional District Judge Biswaranjan Behera delivered the judgment, putting an end to a case that had been pending for nearly eight years.

According to the Additional Public Prosecutor Rashmi Rani Balabantaray, the accused had killed his wife due to a family dispute and dowry demands. The incident had taken place back in October 2022, just a few years after the couple's marriage. Sadly, the woman passed away on December 23, 2022, while undergoing treatment at Khurda hospital.

The court, however, acquitted the accused's mother and two sisters, who were also charged in the case, due to insufficient evidence. The prosecution revealed that the couple's marriage had been marred by frequent quarrels, with the deceased's in-laws constantly demanding dowry. The situation had escalated on October 11, 2022, when the accused doused his wife with kerosene and set her on fire.

The woman suffered severe injuries and was initially taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a private hospital and then to Khurda hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her burn injuries. Following the tragedy, the Kabisurya Nagar police registered a case and arrested the accused, along with his mother and sisters-in-law. However, the court found them not guilty and acquitted them of all charges.
