Athletes' aspirations, misguided guidance, influential figure, pride in Harris, strategic maneuver.
Dear readers,

As a community, we have a responsibility to support our young athletes and their dreams. Oakland, in particular, has a rich history of producing exceptional athletes such as Bill Russell, Rickey Henderson, Marshawn Lynch, Gary Payton, and Damian Lillard. These individuals not only excelled in their sports but also served as role models for aspiring athletes in our city.

However, for the next generation to follow in their footsteps, we must provide them with suitable spaces to play, grow, and thrive. That is why I urge our community and local leaders to prioritize increased funding and support for Oakland's sports programs and teams. We are home to countless talented young athletes with immense potential, and by investing in their development and providing them with the necessary resources, we can ensure they have every opportunity to succeed both on and off the field. Let us not hold them back; instead, let us champion their journeys and celebrate their achievements.

Some individuals may not see the value in investing in our youth, but history has shown the power of unrestricted warfare. When Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941, the USA launched a relentless assault that ultimately led to the unconditional surrender of Japan. Similarly, Israel declared unconditional surrender of Gaza/Hamas after their brutal assault on October 7th. It is only a matter of time before the people of Gaza have had enough, and Israel will stop.

In the case of Rachel Corrie, who stood in front of a 15-ton armored bulldozer, her actions may have been naive, but she should have been awarded a Darwinian Medal for her bravery. Similarly, the Chinese student who stood in front of a tank at Tiananmen Square looked like a hero until the cameras stopped and he was run over. It takes courage to stand up for what you believe in, and we should not judge others for their actions, especially if they are fighting for a cause they believe in.

I am disappointed in Time magazine's choice for Person of the Year, which is a convicted felon, misogynistic creep, and a poor representation of the presidential office. This decision reflects a lack of sensitivity towards the current state of our nation. As one senator famously said, "Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?" This applies to the editors of Time magazine, who have chosen to ignore the threat that this person and his cabal pose to our country.

In contrast, I want to commend Kamala Harris for her tireless work during her short 107-day campaign for the presidency. She worked passionately and won many supporters across the country. While it may be easy to criticize, we must acknowledge her efforts and give credit where it is due. Let us not forget that she is a strong and passionate woman who deserves our respect and support.

Finally, I want to address the issue of the new labor contract covering employees of the Social Security Administration. While some may see it as a ploy to protect government employees from having to show up for work, I see it as a strategic move to outlast the current administration. By extending the work-from-home privileges until 2029, this contract effectively covers the entire Trump presidency. It is unfortunate that President Biden is making decisions that are damaging the reputation of the Democratic Party with the American public.

Let us work together as a community to support our young athletes, hold our leaders accountable, and make decisions that benefit our nation as a whole. Thank you.

Sincerely,

James Kimball

Oakland
