In a tragic turn of events, a CISF officer lost his life while on duty at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. The officer, identified as Niranjan Pradhan, was fatally injured in a head-on collision between his motorcycle and a four-wheeler on Saturday evening. The accused, Sovan Mohapatra, 34, was arrested by the Airport police on Sunday for causing the accident while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to ACP Krushna Chandra Palei, the incident took place on the Pokhariput-Palaspali stretch around 8:30pm when Niranjan was on his way to work. Locals rushed him to Sunshine Hospitals, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Saturday. The accused, Sovan, is a native of Nayagarh district and works as a painter in the city. He had been driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol, which led to the tragic death of the CISF officer.

Sovan has admitted to his mistake and a breath analyser test showed his blood alcohol level to be 239, which is way above the permissible limit of 50. The untimely death of Niranjan Pradhan has left his family, friends, and colleagues in shock and grief. He was a dedicated officer and his loss is deeply felt by the community. The police have urged people to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and to follow traffic rules to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. May Niranjan's soul rest in peace.
