It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of beloved actor Mark Goddard at the age of 87. Goddard was best known for his role in the 1960s CBS series Lost in Space, where he played Major Don West, the pilot of the Jupiter 2.
Goddard was hospitalised for pneumonia shortly after his 87th birthday, and his wife Evelyn confirmed his passing in a statement on Facebook. She expressed her sorrow for the loss of her “wonderful husband” and the “loving, gentle” man she had been so lucky to have been married to for over 30 years.
Goddard’s death was met with an outpouring of tributes, including one from his former co-star Billy Mumy. Mumy wrote of their 59-year friendship and exchanged their last words of “I love you”.
Aside from his most famous role as Don West, Goddard guest-starred on a number of series and starred with Liza Minnelli on Broadway in the 1978 musical “The Act”. His last major appearance was in 2010’s “Soupernatural” but he reprised his signature role as Don West in the 2015 BluRay special “Lost in Space: The Epilogue”.
