22 contestants on The 1% Club are struggling to answer a bird question. Can you solve it?

Since it first aired in 2022, The 1% Club has become one of the biggest game shows on TV. Hosted by Lee Mack, this ITV quiz show pits 100 contestants against a series of twisty logic questions that increase in difficulty as the show progresses. The ultimate goal? To catch out as many contestants as possible and eliminate them from the game. But for those left standing at the end, there's the chance to play for a cash prize of up to £100,000 by correctly answering a final question that only 1% of the public can solve. For viewers at home, it may seem easy to shout out the answers to the questions on their screens. But in the heat of the moment, with only 30 seconds to answer, even the simplest of questions can trip up the contestants. Such was the case on the most recent episode of the show, where a third of the players were stumped by a seemingly straightforward puzzle. The question, which aired on Saturday night, was at the 50% level and went like this: "If TRUE is 1234 and LOVE is 7654, what bird is 5371324?" If you're scratching your head or think you know the answer, keep reading to find out the solution... it's VULTURE. The key to solving the puzzle was to replace the numbers with the corresponding letters in the words "true" and "love" to reveal the hidden bird. As Lee Mack explained, "If you replace the numbers with the appropriate letters in the question, you get 'VULTURE'." Although this question only eliminated two contestants, it left 20 others frantically using their free pass, which allows them to skip one question in the game. One of these players, Matt Strickland, admitted to using the pass because he had no clue, but the answer became clear to him as soon as time ran out. And he's not alone in struggling with seemingly easy questions. In fact, a previous question had 13 players using their free pass and four getting knocked out of the game. This tricky question featured a graphic of six people sitting at a table and read: "Three couples are out on a date. No one is sitting next to or directly opposite their date. Arran tells Nick's date that he likes her shoes. Who is David's date?" The solution, as Lee explained, relied on the fact that no one can sit next to or opposite their date. From there, it could be deduced that Arran and Nick are a couple, leaving Hayley as Arran's date and Janice as David's. Thus, the answer is Janice. Even Lee Mack himself was confused by this one, joking, "It's great when you read them out and you still don't understand the answer." So, while The 1% Club may seem like just another game show, its cleverly crafted questions and rapid-fire pace make it a thrilling and challenging experience for both contestants and viewers alike. And who knows, maybe you'll be the next one percent who can solve the final question and walk away with a hefty cash prize.
