Several youths have been seen combing an area near where millions of pounds worth of Class A drugs were found. On Wednesday morning, packages of suspected cocaine worth more than £3.4 million and weighing 60kg washed ashore in County Donegal, Ireland. Reports say that the youngsters were searching on the northern coastline of Horn Head, near Dunfanaghy, with torches.
When confronted on a farmer’s land later that night, they said they were “just trying to help with the search operation.” The packages are now subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland to determine their exact contents. Moreover, a pier in Magheraroarty, West Donegal was cordoned off and a fishing vessel was impounded by customs officers.
The Irish authorities are continuing joint searches along the north Donegal coastline near Fanad Head with the help of Gardai in Milford. They have asked landowners in the Fanad Head area with coastal land, as well as anyone using the north Donegal coastline in the coming days, to be conscious of the packages that have been recovered.
Witnesses are also encouraged not to interfere with packages or marine debris they may see and to contact police instead. This is not the first time something like this has happened. Last month, cocaine worth £2,750,000 was found in banana containers in Greece and earlier this year a tonne of cocaine worth £100 million was found floating in the English Channel.
