WWE superstar Carlito is gearing up for his first Royal Rumble in years, and he's looking better than ever. The 44-year-old veteran, who previously worked for the company from 2004 to 2010, made a triumphant comeback last year to help out Bad Bunny, and then officially returned to the ring five months later.
Fans were immediately impressed by Carlito's impressive physique, and in an exclusive interview with The Agency, he revealed the secret to his motivation. "It really hasn't been as difficult as people may think," he explained. "Once you get into the right mindset, everything else falls into place."
Despite growing up in a family deeply rooted in the wrestling industry (his father is WWE Hall of Famer Carlos Colon), Carlito admitted that even he has days where he doesn't feel like working out. "There are definitely times when I don't want to do certain things, but I don't even think about it anymore," he shrugged.
The apple-spitting star has certainly bulked up since his early days, and he's proud of the progress he's made. "I used to be like those people who wake up and don't want to go to the gym," he said. "But now, I just don't even think about it. I know that at a certain time, I just go and get it done."
Carlito emphasized the importance of pushing through that initial resistance to working out, as the rewards are well worth it. "I would say that about 90% of the time, people are glad they went to the gym after they finish their workout," he shared. "So it's important to remember that even though it may seem tough at first, the end result is always worth it."
His return to the ring at Backlash last year was met with an overwhelming response on social media, with fans clamoring for WWE to re-sign him (which they ultimately did). But for Carlito, the most meaningful reaction was the one he received live in his native Puerto Rico. "I was blown away by the response I got," he said. "It just shows that people have been waiting for me to return to the WWE for a while now. And I really appreciate that."
After his epic return alongside the Latino World Order, Carlito's next goal is to make an impact at this year's Royal Rumble. Whether he wins or not, he hopes to create a moment that will be remembered for years to come. "Of course, winning is the ultimate goal," he said. "But even if I can just do something memorable, that will go down in history, that would be amazing."
Looking back on his career, which saw him capture the Intercontinental and US titles in his first year on SmackDown, as well as his memorable return at Backlash, Carlito remains focused on the present. "I didn't really have time to panic," he said. "I'm still on my grind right now. Maybe once everything settles down, I'll be able to look back and be proud of everything I've accomplished."
The WWE Royal Rumble is set to air on January 27 at 1am, and fans are already buzzing with excitement.
