Susan Hodgson had the shock of her life when she returned from holiday to find her family home in Atlanta had been mistakenly demolished.
Ms Hodgson told WAGA-TV that a neighbour contacted her while she was away and asked if anyone had been hired to tear down the vacant house. When Ms Hodgson replied no, the neighbour informed her that someone had 'just demolished the whole house and tore the entire house down'.
When the neighbour confronted the workers, Ms Hodgson said she was told to ‘shut up and mind her own business’. A family member was sent over to ask the workers for a permit, and upon checking it, the workers admitted they were at the wrong address.
The house had been empty and the taxes and upkeep were up to date. Ms Hodgson expressed her disbelief, saying, ‘It’s just hard to believe someone thinks they have the right to just come and tear something up and walk away from it and didn’t come back and say ‘I’m sorry. What do I need to do to fix this. It was an accident’. They didn’t give me nothing.’
Ms Hodgson said she had yet to hear from the company responsible, and added, ‘I think he owes us an apology, and he needs to fix the problem’. The company has since released a statement to WAGA-TV, saying they are investigating and working to resolve the mishap.
