Kerry Dale, 44, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of multiple offences committed against a young teenager at Glenburn Sports College in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. The attacks occurred between January 2000 and March 2002, and would not have come to light without the victim’s incredible bravery.
The victim, now in her thirties, continues to suffer from the trauma of the event. She has suffered anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares, and PTSD, and has lost friends and strained her relationship with her family. The victim’s friend spoke out about the damage the attack has caused her, saying: “Kerry has ruined her life. She doesn’t have confidence in herself anymore. Still to this day she suffers to live with this. Her family, friends, and children have suffered. It’s had a really bad impact on her life and she needed the justice.”
Dale will be on the sex offenders’ register for life, and after the case, Detective Sergeant Karen Harrison from Lancashire Constabulary’s rape and serious sexual offences team praised the victim’s courage. She said: “The victim in this case has shown incredible bravery and I want to place on record my admiration for the courage she has shown throughout this process. We will investigate any case, no matter how historic, and do everything we can to put perpetrators before the courts.”
