Family members and the Southern California community are in shock after an unprovoked attack on 13-year-old Kassidy Jones inside a McDonald's restaurant. The entire disturbing incident was captured on video.
Kassidy and her friends had stopped at a McDonald's after school. As Kassidy was walking out of the bathroom, an unknown woman began staring at her. Kassidy recalled the woman seeming extremely upset and saying, “What the f**k are y’all looking at? I fight kids. I fight you.” Without warning, the woman lunged at Kassidy and began violently attacking her.
The grown woman was seen yanking Kassidy's hair and hitting her repeatedly. Fortunately, a bystander eventually jumped in to pull the assailant off. Kassidy's mother, Angelina Gray, spoke to the press about her daughter's emotional and physical pain. She said, “My daughter is hurting emotionally. She can’t sleep at night. She’s bruised…. She doesn’t want to go to school because she’s tired of the kids and everybody asking her what happened and making fun of her. It wasn’t a fight, it was a beating.”
Gray has asked that the woman seen on video turn herself in. She pleaded, “I would like the person who brutally attacked my daughter to turn herself in. I know you’re watching. I know your family is watching… Do the right thing and turn yourself in.” In addition, Gray is asking for the McDonald’s managers to be charged for not stopping the beating on its premises. The Los Angeles police have an ongoing investigation into the woman seen on video, and she will be charged with child abuse and battery once she is apprehended.
This disturbing incident of young girls being assaulted by grown adults isn’t isolated to Southern California. In a Lawndale Chicago neighborhood, an 11-year-old girl was physically assaulted and verbally berated by two women. Trinity Washington was hit with bottles, punched, and verbally abused by two adult women during a Mexican Independence Day celebration on September 17th. Washington suffered extensive injuries, including her right eye and orbital bones, and required surgery the night of the beating. This incident is still currently being investigated.
It is heartbreaking to see young girls being subjected to such violence. We must all work together to ensure that all children are safe and free from harm. We must also demand that justice is served for Kassidy Jones and Trinity Washington.
