Mumbai's Lokmanya Tilak Marg Police have recently taken three people, including a woman, into custody for allegedly duping a jeweller of ₹70 lakh in gold ornaments. The trio, identified as Satyanarayan Ramnarayan Dixit alias Binu D, 48, Techi Nirmalkumar Vyakantramana Braramandachari, 34, and Soumya Koda, 32, all hail from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. During the course of their arrest, the police managed to recover 800 gms of valuables.
The jeweller, who runs a wholesale business in the Zaveri Bazar area of Mumbai, had supplied the accused with ornaments worth up to ₹15 lakh in May, all of which were paid for promptly. As a result, the jeweller gained the accused's confidence, and the accused began to take jewellery on credit. This resulted in the accused taking gold and silver ornaments worth ₹70 lakh, without paying for them.
The jeweller was shocked to find out that the accused had no office in Visakhapatnam as he had claimed. Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the accused had been using his accomplices to receive parcels of jewellery sent by the complainant via courier.
The Lokmanya Tilak Marg Police are currently investigating the case and have yet to make any further arrests. They have asked anyone with information related to the case to come forward and contact them.
